Wireless Ypsi Breaks 2500 Users And 500Gb Of Data
We hit another milestone tonight as we crossed over 2500 users since our launch in January. We also passed 525 gigabytes of data transferred. We are averaging between 150 and 200 users per day. We have over 70 radios deployed in the City and now also in the Township.
No matter how we measure, total users, daily users, bandwidth, or radios deployed, Wireless Ypsi ranks in the top 15 of Meraki mesh networks worldwide.
To all the users and supporters of Wireless Ypsi, Thanks!

Ypsi Mayor Backs Wireless Ypsi
The Mayor of Ypsilanti, Paul Schreiber, has generously donated $100 to buy an outdoor radio for the Riverside Arts Center.
Thank you Paul for your support and for talking up Wireless Ypsi on WEMU during their on-air fund drive last week. It is really appreciated. Cheers!

Bombadill’s Cafe Joins Wireless Ypsi
Bombadil’s Cafe in downtown Ypsilanti is the newest member of Wireless Ypsi. Thanks to Bombadil’s owner Peter Rinehart. Also a big tip of the hat to Provide.net, Ypsilanti’s only local Internet Service Provider, for their help in getting the radio installed at Bombadil’s.

Wi-Fi In Public Housing
The New York Times reports on a project where free Internet is offered in a public housing project in San Francisco.
We approached the Ypsilanti Public Housing Commission in February with a similar offer to do the same thing. The Housing Commission would need a single DSL connection for as little as $50 a month. It would cost about $400 up-front for the radios.
For about $1.25 per month per apartment, everyone that lives at Paradise Manor would have access to high-speed Internet.
Others in the community have offered to get residents refurbished computers as well as provide training for those families that don’t already have computers.
We haven’t heard back from the Housing Commission but we stand ready to help get this going.
If you know of others in the community that could benefit from free Internet service, let us know. We are looking for other groups to partner with to grow Wireless Ypsi.

More Wireless Ypsi News
Here are three more nuggets of Wireless Ypsi gold.
I just got off the phone with the Project Manager from the City of Cleveland. He called me looking for information about Wireless Ypsi. It turns out they are interested in exploring our wireless model in the wake of the failure of most municipal wi-fi projects.
According to THIS website, Wireless Ypsi is the 11th largest Meraki network in the world.
Wireless Ypsi will also be giving a presentation to the Prospect Park Neighborhood Association this Wednesday, April 2nd at 6:30PM at the Corner Brewery (located at the eastern edge of the Depot Town brewing district at 720 Norris Street). Come join us as we help neighbors enjoy the benefits of the Wireless Ypsi partnership as we create more wireless sleeper cells throughout Ypsilanti.
